A Budgerigar enjoying the shade of a large Desert Oak in a mature stand of trees a little south of the Bonython Range.

Young Desert Oaks (Allocasuarina decaisneana) have a distinctive upright whispy form that doesn't provide a lot of useful shade but stands of them make an interesting and attractive vista in desert areas.

Mature trees, like this one, have a more spreading form with cascading foliage providing good shade and a friendly carpet underfoot littered with seed cones. We had a very pleasant late lunch stop beneath this one.
